10 Movie Soundtrack Favorites

Our favorite movies wouldn’t be as cool without the amazing musical scores behind them. This is a sampling of some of my favorite movie tunes.

Lizy’s 10 Favorite Star Wars Videos

In the immortal words of Obi-wan Kenobi in Revenge of the Sith,

Via tedywestside.tumblr

I’m posting a bit early this week, but today is Star Wars day and, as some of us are painfully aware, this particular May the 4th marks the calm before a Marvel storm. To liven up your Star Wars Day and to keep the celebration going afterward, here are some of my favorite Star Wars fan videos.

The Death of Padme Amidala

One of my personal peculiarities is that I take things at face value.  The first time I saw Revenge of the Sith, I didn’t question Padmé dying of a broken heart. It seemed understandable. But of course, as I mentioned in one of my first articles for this site, college made me question everything.

The critics never liked Padmé’s death because she’s supposed to be a strong female character and yet she was weak enough to fall for Anakin in the first place and weaker still to just pine away and die because he joined the Dark Side. And yet, in the face of knowing that my opinion was still unpopular, Padmé’s death made sense to me for her character. In spite of her numerous other strengths, she had selfishly chosen to love the wrong person, and there was nothing left for her after she found out what kind of a person he was.

Of Villains and Victims

“It is our choices, Harry, that make us who we truly are, far more than our abilities.”  Over the last few years, I have come to realize that there is a lot of truth to this statement. Choices are what decide whether we’re good or bad, not what we’re capable of doing.  Choices also determine our character more than the bad things we put up with in life. There was a banner on the wall of my high school gym: attitude is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react. That is the difference between a villain and a victim.

50 Good Books: Star Wars: Lords of the Sith

I am one that normally does not like the villains. I am not usually one that can cheer for the villains or see one of them as the main protagonist of the story. For that reason alone, I was unsure about wanting to read Star Wars: Lords of the Sith by Paul S. Kemp. I didn’t want to spend my time trying to get into a story where Darth Vader was the main protagonist. It just didn’t interest me. The more I thought about it, though, the more I was intrigued and found myself curious to learn more about Darth Vader.

The Perfect Star Wars Party

(All the photos in this post are mine)

One more Star Wars post wouldn’t hurt before the hype dies down too much.  To celebrate the premiere of The Force Awakens back in December (and also to celebrate my birthday, which was the same week) I threw a little Star Wars party.  I didn’t have more than five people show up, but all who came had a good time. To get in the Star Wars spirit I prepared themed snacks and games.  I thought you might like to read about them, in case you want some Star Wars party ideas of your own and also to review my experience making these treats and games.

10 Reasons the Prequels are still Relevant in ‘The Force Awakens’

I know what you were thinking when you read the title: “Liz, you have got to be kidding.”  Why would I joke about something this important?

I get that The Force Awakens was written to appeal to fans of the original trilogy.  You don’t have to have seen the prequels to understand or enjoy this film.  But what really bugs me is the mentality that some people have that “the prequels sucked and The Force Awakens is Star Wars being awesome again.” To me, Star Wars has always been awesome.

I’m not buying into Lucasfilm trying to appease the haters. But I am going along with The Force Awakens being the first installment of a new story for a new generation.  True, they had to throwback to the original trilogy in terms of plot and visual style because for some reason otherwise people wouldn’t get on board with it. But the prequels are the foundation for the story that’s being told: there’s more to it that just the gimmicks. I’m just here to share my perspective and hope maybe you’ll gain something from reading this.

Crocheted Lightsaber

Hi everyone, Erica here from 5 Little Monsters sharing another Geek-Craft with you. For a while now I have been wanting to try making a crocheted Lightsaber. I really wanted to try to make it last month before the new movie came out and before Christmas but that is such a busy time of year that it just didn’t happen. I still really wanted to try it though, so a month later here it is.

5 Take-aways from The Force Awakens

Hello, dear readers, and welcome to 2016. Last year ended with a bang in Hollywood, with the release of the latest Star Wars film, The Force Awakens. As expected, it has already broken numerous records, and is on its way to breaking many more, including the top grossing film domestically, which it is projected to become as of Monday. As of the time I am writing this post, it has already sunk Titanic (I couldn’t resist). Even more amazing than how much money it has earned thus far, is how well it has been received by fans. Fans old and young seem to love the film, something the prequels were never able to accomplish.

Jake’s List of 10 Movies for 2016

2016 is here, and that means we have a whole new year’s worth of movies to look forward to. 2015 was all about The Force Awakens. What will be the big hit for 2016? So far it looks like Captain America: Civil War may be the king of the year, but it has plenty of competition. This is my list of 10 movies I am looking forward to in the upcoming year. It’s not a comprehensive list, because there are a ton of really cool movies coming out this year. My list may not be the same as yours, but these are the 10 movies I am looking forward to. They are listed in order of when they are coming out.
