30Days30Characters: Day 9-Thor

In comics, it’s not uncommon for creators to take a mythical or legendary figure and turn them into superhero or villain. Hercules and Ares are a couple of examples. These are fun characters, and it is interesting to see how the comic creators tie their ancient stories in with modern lore. It seems like an easy, yet effective way to create a new hero. You have a back story already, a cast of characters, including a main bad guy. It works. None of them have been as successful, though, as today’s character.

30Days30Characters: Day 6- Spider-Man

As I put together this list of characters, I had to decide what kind of list this would be. I knew it would not be a countdown type list. Sometimes it’s hard to do a countdown and rank something. It’s hard to quantifiably say this character is better than this character. At different times in my life different characters have meant different things. What was important to me in high school is typically less important to me now. A few characters still mean the same to me, and some characters mean a lot to me now, but for different reasons than when I was a kid. Today’s character fits in that category- he meant a lot to me when I was younger and means a lot to me now, but for totally different reasons.

30Days30Characters: Day 5-Captain America

Happy Sunday, everyone. Today marks the beginning of the first full week of themed posts in this series. I broke my list of characters down into four different categories: characters from comics, from TV shows, movies, and from books. Of course, for many of these characters they have appeared in two or more of these different media. For example Superman has been in comics, movies TV, and even books (actual novels), not to mention radio programming as well. For the purposes of this series, I have tried to have categorized these characters primarily in the type of media where they started. So, for my first entry in the comics category…

The Marvel Movie Villain We Need

Looking at the last ten years of Marvel movies, we’ve been through a lot of villains. A lot of them didn’t last more than one fight with the main character.

It’s not that I don’t trust the Russo Brothers (or that I don’t want to trust them). And it’s not that I don’t think that Thanos doesn’t have potential to be a GREAT villain in Avengers: Infinity War. But it is very hard to not buy into the online fandom rhetoric that Thanos hasn’t really done anything to show that he means business.  He is willing to work with dangerous people to get what he wants. He technically ruined the lives of both Gamora and Nebula. And I don’t underestimate the amount of damage Thanos could do with a loaded Infinity Gauntlet. But most of what we know about Thanos in the MCU is by reputation.

Get Ready For ‘Black Panther’

Between the light teases for Infinity War and the imminent arrival of Spider-man: Homecoming, I was starting to wonder if Black Panther was actually happening anymore. There was like, zero promo material for it. But this trailer packs in a lot. I don’t know half of what’s going on, but it looks like there should be more to it than just being the last Marvel movie before Infinity War.

I mean, a lot more. Like, earth-shattering entertainment.

Liz’s 12 Takeaways from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’

I saw Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 over two weeks ago. I’ve been either too lazy or too tired to write down my thoughts about it. But it’s time to stop procrastinating.

Jake wrote a very awesome and succinct review of it already that put in words more of my general thoughts about the film. So I’m taking a different approach as to what I got out of this movie and listing some of the specifics. Assuming most of you have seen it by now, I felt free in including spoilers as necessary.

10 Reasons We Love Scott Lang

You’re probably starting to wonder, when is our resident Marvel fangirl going to write a Marvel post? I think this is my first one this year! It’s not really a huge deal, as far as posts go. However, this is a post about the ways in which Scott Lang, the MCU’s Ant-Man, is actually a big player.

15 Geeky Items I’ve Found at a Thrift Store

As some of you may know, I work at a major thrift store in Provo. We get thousands of items donated daily. I work in the back sorting through those donations to see what’s good enough to be resold and what’s not. I have been working there for eight months now and I have seen lots and lots of geeky items. If you follow me on I Love the Star Wars Prequels, you know that I post updates sometimes about prequels-related merchandise. Star Wars is perhaps the biggest franchise represented as far as action figures, toys, and collectible items.  This is a sampling of some of the geek items I’ve seen at the store from a variety of fandoms and favorite media.
