Summer Movies Trailerpalooza

Summer is right around the corner, and that means it is movie time. A couple of years back, it looked like this year was going to be epic. It looks like it is set up to not disappoint. In the past few weeks, we have been graced by the arrival of a number of trailers for some upcoming Summer movies. Some have looked amazing, some have not. The following list is by no means comprehensive, but it is a list of trailers for some of the movies coming out this summer (year). Aside from these upcoming movies, there are a few films I cannot wait to watch coming to some of the premium channels this summer too! Premium channels are a great way to enjoy some of the latest movies in the comfort of your own home. 4 Summer movies I am really looking forward to

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2- May 4, 2017

First Impressions: I liked the first GOTG movie way more than I thought I would. A lot of what I liked revolved around the chemistry between the actors. They just seemed like they were having a blast, and as a result, the audience had a good time. Volume 2 looks like more of the same. In this case, that is a very good thing.

Wonder Woman- June 2, 2017

First Impressions: Wonder Woman, for me, was the highlight of the Batman v. Superman film. Her appearance in that film made me excited that she was getting her own film. The trailer looks like the movie will be everything I am hoping. This could be the first time that DC beats Marvel to the punch. Marvel has yet to release a solo film for one of their female characters. DC even looks to be doing it right.

Spider-Man: Homecoming- July 7, 2017

First Impressions: I love that the subtitle for this movie is “Homecoming.” In a not so subtle way, Marvel is reminding everyone that Spidey is finally home, in the MCU where he belongs. One of my favorite parts of the Civil War movie last year was the Spidey character, and I can’t wait to see where they go with it in this movie. The trailer looks good. Very good.

Justice League- November 17, 2017

First Impressions: I have so many mixed emotions when I watch this trailer. I want this movie to be so good. Visually it looks a lot like Batman v. Superman, which is bad, but it seems to be the look that DC is going for. There is more humor, though. Not Marvel humor. It feels more like the joking around you would do Senior year in high school or in college, where Marvel feels more like your middle school years. If that makes any sense. In any case, Wonder Woman looks great. Aquaman looks amazing, and Bat-fleck is still pretty decent. There is enough here for this movie to be good. *crosses fingers*

4 Summer movies I wish were not happening

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell no Tales- May 26, 2017

First Impressions: 50 years ago, Disneyland premiered one of their greatest, most classic attractions. It’s one of my personal favorites. Whenever I go to Disneyland, and I am waiting to board the boat to take a trip through Pirates of the Caribbean, that’s when I know I have arrived. To celebrate the 50th anniversary, Disney is releasing a film that simply does not need to be made. Do we need a fifth Pirates movie?

Cars 3- June 16, 2017

First Impressions: Speaking of completely needless Disney sequels, Cars 3 is also hitting theaters this summer. Yes, I will probably see this film because my boys will want to see it. Yes, Disney is probably making this movie to sell a ton of merchandise (where they have made a tone of money on this franchise so far). Yes, this is probably also an attempt to continue to make Cars Land relevant. So, my expectations are low. Which makes me sad because it is Pixar.

Transformers: The Last Knight- June 23, 2017

First Impressions: Not much to say except: Why? I don’t get Transformers, or what the appeal of this franchise continues to be. But, like the Energizer Bunny, it just keeps going. And it will probably make a billion dollars with the international box office. Again.

Despicable Me 3- June 30, 2017

First Impressions: Despicable Me was one of the biggest surprises for me when it came out. I wasn’t expecting much from it, but it delivered. It was heartwarming and fun and cute. Despicable Me 2 wasn’t as good, but still enjoyable. Minions was bad. I have no idea what to think of Despicable Me 3, but I do think it may be going to the well one too many times.

Summer Movie I wasn’t expecting

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie- June 2, 2017

First Impressions: I had no idea this movie was coming out. I hadn’t heard anything about it. My 7 year-old is super excited. The Captain Underpants books are his favorite books. I showed him the trailer I was researching for this post, and he loved it. I am excited to see how this film turns out.

A couple of Summer movies coming out this Fall/ Winter

Not included in my list are two movies I am absolutely looking forward to- Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Thor: Ragnarok. Star Wars comes out in December, and Thor hits theaters November 3. There are no trailers for these films yet. I expect we will see our first Star Wars trailer at Celebration coming up on April 13, or by May 4 at the latest. Thor we will probably see with the release of GOTG vol. 2. It’s totally possible we see both trailers attached to the GOTG film. IN any case, as soon as they hit the webs, we’ll probably post them on our Facebook page.

So, there’s the list. Of course not included would be quite a few films not related to DC/Marvel, like Alien:Covenant, or The Dark Tower. I am sure there are plenty of people eagerly waiting for those and other films. Let us know what films you are looking forward to the most? Let us know in the comments or on our Facebook page.
