A New First Post

This is going to be a different post compared to what I have written in the past. Consider it a new “first post.” You know what I mean, the first post a blogger does when they start a blog, explaining what the content will be like and introducing themselves. That’s kind of what this will be, even though this blog has been around for a while now. June 18, 2014 was the original first post. Since that time, we have had over 300 posts published to the site and along the way, the style and content has evolved.

And along the way, I have grown and evolved, and what this blog is to me has changed and evolved. The last post I published was right after the Spider-Man: Homecoming movie came out. It has been a couple of months. During that time, I have thought a lot about what I want this blog to be and how I want to continue with it. So this post is me letting you know what I decided.

What will this blog be?

What am I hoping to accomplish here? Mostly, this blog is meant to be an outlet for me. I started this for strictly selfish purposes. I just wanted to write. If people found it interesting, great. If not, that was fine too, as long as I found it interesting. I lost that vision somewhere along the way, and I started to worry more about gaining followers and becoming something more. And I think the blog suffered for it.

I am going to get back to the original vision some more. So let me break this down in a couple of different areas: content and writers.

Content

The content on this blog is going to vary. It is really going to be whatever I feel like writing about.  Whatever I feel I can put a good post together about. That’s all I can really say about it. It won’t be reviews, but sometimes I will have reactions. It won’t be news -unless it is something that either gets my blood boiling or something really cool. It will just be a lot of my thoughts on a lot of different things.

It will also be some of my personal experiences. My life isn’t that interesting, but sometimes stuff happens that might be interesting to this audience or stuff that I want to share with someone. When that happens, it will probably show up on this site.

Mostly, I think, the content from me will be better. At least weekly, I will have one really good post to share. There may be more in a week, but whatever it is, I am going to try to make it good. If I don’t care enough about the topic to put the time into a decent, well written post, it doesn’t belong on the site.

Writers

Going forward, there’s only going to be me. This blog is becoming much more my personal blog about geeky stuff and my geeky adventures. Liz has done some phenomenal work for the site, but her own personal brand is growing. He Jedi in Jeans site is very good, and I hope her brand and blog continues to grow and do well.

Right now, though, with where I want this site to go, I am taking over as the sole contributor to the site. Liz may do one more post for us, it is up to her, but after that, it will be just one writer.

Again this has nothing to do with Liz or the quality of her work. It has everything to do with the new direction the blog will be going.

What the blog won’t be

News. It won’t be news. I can’t keep up with it. I’m not even going to try. There are a lot of different news sites out there, and  most of them are great. This is not one of them. I may write about a news item in the form of my reaction, but it will only be things that I really care about. More than likely, though, most of my posts will not be news or news items.

It won’t be a review site. I have done some reviews in the past, and some might pop up in the future, but mostly, the closest thing will be reactions. What did I think about a movie or book or show, how did it make me feel, that sort of thing.

Finally, this site won’t be boring. I want to write about interesting things and offer some interesting insights on them. I am only going to write about things that I think are cool, so hopefully you will think they are cool too.

Social Media

Most of my effort on social media up to this point has been on Facebook. I may try to branch out more into Twitter and Instagram and things like that. The Facebook page for this site will continue to be the main place where I post, though. There will be a lot about this site and the content, but also there will be a lot of the other stuff I find funny or awesome on the internet that I think you will like as well. I may also try my hand again at some original memes.

Finally

I want this blog to be fun. Fun for you and fun for me. Hopefully that will show in the content I churn out over the following weeks and months, and hopefully it will show in the comments and interactions we get on that content. I am very excited about the changes to the blog. I have been stressing about this for a while, and as a result, I couldn’t write on the blog. As I write this, I am feeling relieved and excited. I hope you will enjoy what this site becomes, and I am so grateful for all of your support up to this point.

Thank you!
