13 Fandom Deaths That Will Always Be Too Soon

Here’s a short tribute to the saddest deaths in some of our fandoms, to the ones who die without being likely to come back.  None of these are necessarily in order, and I don’t have time to discuss the hows and whys of all their deaths today. But see if you can make it through this post without crying. Also, spoilers for just about everything.

1. Han Solo

It was the one we all saw coming, and yet it hurt worse than we could have imagined.

2. Pietro Maximoff

Reasons Pietro didn’t deserve to die: the cutest and the most important neck pop in the history of ever. (Giphy)

“Captain America’s shield is made out of Vibranium. Hawkeye’s shield is made out of Quicksilver”—GET OUT.

3. Stoic the Vast

I literally watched the rest of the movie in denial. I kept waiting for him to come back. And it never happened. And the worst part? He’d just been reunited with his wife.

4. Mufasa

“it’s been over twenty years, get over it.” NEVER.

5. Frigga

The Queen of Asgard was the best mom in the MCU—one of the best moms in any franchise EVER. Her fight with Malekieth was epic. And then she got stabbed. And then she had an incredibly moving funeral. But she was one of those characters I would like to have stayed and been a bigger part of the story.

6. Fred Weasley

I actually had issues with Fred’s death the first time I read Deathly Hallows. It made no sense why Fred would die. But, as it turns out, death in war is often random and senseless.

7. Tadashi Hamada

He had brains, he had looks, he was a faithful older brother to Hiro, and he was a huge dork. He was the perfect Disney “prince” without officially being one. Yeah, sometimes you don’t have a movie without the guardian figure dying, but Tadashi was the one who didn’t deserve it.

Right when he was getting over the Dragon sickness, right when he was truly becoming the King Under the Mountain (literally the best five minutes of The Battle of Five Armies). *sniff*

Plurk

And compound that death with the two awesomest dwarfs in Thorin’s company, and also his nephews. WHY?

11. General Astra

She was the boss female villain of Supergirl and one of its most interesting characters. She had so much potential. It was too soon and too brutal and it made the rest of Season 1 painful to watch (in a good way, but STILL…)

TV Equals

12 and 13. Lupin and Tonks

If you weren’t mad at J.K. Rowling over Fred and Hedwig, this pushed you over the edge. Lupin and Tonks were my favorite couple in the Harry Potter series, and Lupin was a character I related to a lot. He never could seem to catch a break for very long. And leaving behind them a young son was totally unfair.

I was one of those super oblivious people who didn’t see Han’s death coming. It was so heartbreaking when it happened!!! I’m definitely not over the death of [SPOILER] Wash, from the Firefly series/Serenity movie. So, so, devastatingly sad.
